Dear Elena,

I am also Russian speaking professional who works and lives in Moscow since
April last year. And since choosing residential aria is a very flexible
aspect which depends on many factors, such as your income, your husband’s
office location and etc., I will just try to share with you some thoughts
that I came to or received from my friends, who live here for a long time J.

1. If you want to experience dynamic Moscow, it is always better to
live within the territory of round metro line (brown line). Though the very
center of Moscow is always crowded and traffic-jammed. Prices for food and
staff can differ between center and outer residential areas by around 20%.

2. Cian.ru is really good proposal, but please address your matter to
official realtors only. There are so many stories where people wanted to
rent apartment without realtor (directly dealing with land lord) and were
cheated. I hope this will be handled by your husband’s company anyway. If
not, let me know and I will ask my expat colleagues for the best contact if
needed. For good apartments you may check: http://rent.realtor.ru/

3. Patriarshiy prudi is definitely fascinating area to live. I
personally like the area around Tsvetnoy boulevard, area around
Novoslobodskaya metro station. Still center, but not too crowded plus good
infrastructure. If you look at Moscow, center, west and north are
relatively good for living, south and east are not.

4. As for Traffic I would support Irina. Moscow is amazing: you may
easily stuck in a traffic for 4 – 5 hours for a distance which can be
passed in 20 minutes. Metro is truly effective. During morning metro train
comes for every half a minute BUT on a rush hour it looks like all Moscow
decided to take metro. Because of this many people from Moscow rent out
their apartments and find something suitable close to their offices.

5. You may find a lot of international schools in Moscow via google,
but none of them are located in a very center of Moscow.

6. As for the rest, don’t listen to the people who negatively describe
Moscow. It is huge city, and many things are surely tuff. But once you
managed to fix all your matters with relocation, I am sure your exploration
of this city will bring you loads of positive surprises. A lot is happening
here, cultural life, gatherings, exhibitions. You will definitely meet a
lot of interesting people in a city which is so much different from the
rest of Russia.

7. And my little advise, please start learning Russian once you bought
your tickets. Russia is not as multilingual as Holland for example. And
even basic knowledge will make your life much easier.

I will be happy to answer any specific questions if you have those.

Good luck and all the best with the new page of your life J

Kind regards,

Maxim
