Excellent!  Let me know if you have better luck with Kexpress than I
did.  I had alot of LONG freezes when I tried to use it for newsreading.

Well, some of the files are links, some are the actual libs, and some
are archives (.a).  That would explain SOME of the discrepancies, but
you're right that there doesn't seem to be a common theme to the
permissions on any of them.


The ld.so manpage says that both /lib and /usr/lib are included
automatically.  /etc/ld.so.conf just lists the "extra" library
directories installed on your system.
