Well, your server is still running ok?! Thanks Linux and surely, your
Power Surge!!! Did you loose some works? I'm afraid you do!
Keep all the good works! Please :)
Keep all the good works if you enjoyed a (following) part of my life...
In a french shop where I bought my last and my new PC (the previous one
was for my father when I was still student (just 2 years ago, and I even
achieved to make business (to get paid!) with it and linux was helping
me to do it)...(a silly thing we used to call "Minitel" (same-same as
Internet, mail, mailbox, newsgroup, chat, and everything that makes
internet worth!!! was the first thing I touched, before unix boxes...
and before internet tools...)), and my new one is for me! the first
computer I even bought for ME since 10 years!!! but with a 17"... (since
my second computer, an Atari ST one)), I had so bad feelings with the
man who wanted to sell me so many things I didn't care... thanks the
good guy (still the technical guy who helped me, I bet on Lothar things
to never happen again... the technical guy I met two years ago, and he
told me the best for the rest... you know, about winmodem... celeron and
things YOU DON'T HAVE TO CARE WHEN YOU ARE USING LINUX). Do you remember
the times when so many brands like Atari, Comodore, and every else! were
proud of there products? it was so much a good time!
I worked almost one year for Motorola Semiconductors in France in a
Sales Department (NCSG), in an OEM strategy...(NCSG meant and is steel
meaning "Networking and Computing Systems Group", I won't tell anything
about G4 and everything else but I'm back in Linux world and to "some"
people who were thinking same-same as me!!! even in Motorola), for
customers like Nortel, Alcatel, ... Where is Linux for their boards? I
heard about it... but... I have so many questions to work on... If linux
does work with a PowerPC, does it make a problem to work with a PCI
card? Does the PCI code for Lothar and that 'spirit around' does make a
re-write program or does it work "as it has to be re-compiled" with the
right gcc for PowerPC? I would bet on it! and for Linux community...
Today, I finally choosed my way, an independent worker way!!! I'm
teacher on C and C++ language and on Unix (even if I'm not the best user
of Linux, or not an expert one "even if I subscribed to" ;) I'm a user
and Iu want to share my knowledge. I also develop softwares on Palm
Computing Platform... I don't like DataBases but I loved minimal
programming for (for a thing which is 2 times faster than an original
Mac, and which has 4 times the memory it used to work with word 3.0 and
so many other things...).
Last thing I had done, was simply to help the mother of one of my best
friend (I'm 27 and I know him for more than 23 years, how lucky I am!!!
for sure!!!). She had (even I help her, you know!!! I help my friend
because I loved him! and because I know that her husband quit working,
It's ok!!! I help her with "just" good intentions with Linux to save her
crappy things under Windows and her business (the only way she had was
to "format c:\" according to her best friends or according to her best
business partners) and I finally saved her business and the way its
softwares under DOS were working..., I was so happy and if you ever have
seen her hapinness ... just after the total recovering, you know!, if
you had saw her smile... and if you knew about the one week of holidays
she planned, she canceled, to her mom!!! (the mother of the mother of my
friend!!!), and she, after one week-end (because I don't know enough
about Windows, shame on me??? Finally, I think that you do what you want
to do when you help your friend with less than two days (a week end!!!)
for him), she finally decided to go to her Mom because "Linux" saved her
business... Just feel it and you will continue to use and to "preach"
for Linux boxes....)). She told me today that she bought (to late for
acting...) a fantastic Jazz Drive on parallel port... Would I be able to
run it under Linux (whatever of the version) with only 1 or 2 floppies
with it? to help other people? I knew that I helped people running SCO
Unix with Linux, and finally, everything was working... with just, you
know, "a free software"...
I didn't participate to much here since I have subscribed... even if I
worked in semiconductors and even if I didn't "play" enough with
softwares so much... I know and I AM SURE that Mandrake are going to put
a friendly desktop on PC (means Personal Computer) with such a project
like Lothar's project!!! Thanks to KDE or to GNOME, I'm not there for
discussing on that subject!!!!!!
I won't participate here to often, but even if you wanted some
acknowledgment, I'm there and I'm reading some of your posts!!!
Keep all the good works, dears all!!!
I'm a friendly user and I want to help people like this on the future
and, if I could, I want to help peolple like this! We are a great
community, we just have to keep "all" the good works...
For the best,
Fabien.
PS: for a foreign participant, if you ever come in Paris and want to
take a good drink, just e-mail me and I'll show you a bit of one of the
prettiest town in the world... but if you want to visit Paris, I could
ask my friends because I'm not the best guide in the universe...
