Uh yep!  I've got similar symptoms... A core dump in /root and /dev/hda not
unmounted cleanly even though it WAS taken down "nicely."

As for eth0 initialization - I see that with my 3c905 IF and ONLY IF I boot
thru windows as opposed to intercepting the boot process with an "F8" and
booting via loadlin from DOS.  Don't know if that's related or not.
