I didn't download the iso image, but it seems likely that it only has the
long file names in Rock Ridge format: try mounting it on a Unix system, or
just boot it, and see if it (starts to) installs ok ...
(MicroSoft use a system called Joliet to record long file names on ISO
file-systems, which is different.)
Plain ISO can have long(ish)filenames, but with certain restrictions, such
as only one '.' character per name.

Try a different mirror; maybe the one you used still has some older packages
in it?
