I was having problems with esound under gnome on Mandrake 6.0. I have all the updates applied, and I finally figured out what was wrong. I noticed that if I ran esd & before starting X sound was okay, but that wasn't the way that gnome started it. It started it with esd -as 30 -nobeeps. I then started X and noticed that there were two copies of it running (this is the problem). I then got the source RPM from mandrake, and noticed that it's using 0.2.10 (not the latest version). I built the following -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 70320 Jun 14 09:44 esound-0.2.12-1mdk.i586.rpm -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 19348 Jun 14 09:44 esound-devel-0.2.12-1mdk.i586.rpm and now have 0 problems. One of the things that was mentioned in the changelog of 0.2.12 was "and fix auto-spawning of esd." I assume this is the one that fixes it. Because now I only have one copy of esd running, and all is well. -- Greg Rumple [EMAIL PROTECTED]
