Hm, at least for me it *has* to do with the new version:

- tried 4.08 on M6 - crashed
- tried 4.5 on M6 - crashed
- tried 4.6 on M6 - crashed

- tried 4.08 on M5.3 - didn't crash (well, apart from the usual choking once
  a week...)
- tried 4.5 on M5.3 - didn't crash (slightly worse than 4.08, though)

(All tests on the same hardware)

On the other hand this doesn't seem to be Mandrake specific. I searched Deja
News for 'bus access error Netscape Linux' and got some 70 hits, ranging from
Debian to Redhat.
Seems to strike glibc 2.0 as well as 2.1 users. And nobody seems to be able to
explain WTH a 'bus access error' *is* in the first place.

Regards

tom
