Same constatation for me, all versions that are/have been available of
VMWARE run fine on kernels up to 2.2.9-26mdk, from 2.2.9-27mdk, none of them
work, the just exit with a 'segmentation fault'.

btw: after installint 2.2.9-27 and upgrading the initscripts, I kept getting
the umount problem on about one of five shutdowns. And yes, I checked wich
kernel I was running typing uname -a. I even removed the old vmlinuz in the
/boot directory and reapplied the upgrade to make shure.
