Since its an external modem, have you tried both COM ports? Also look into the speaker volume setting. I know it sounds weird, but my USR 56k external would not work and I would get 'modem busy' messages if the speaker volume was set to low in Kppp. Also run modemtool from a command line in X and set the COM port for the modem there. > ** These two are the only things that don't work.
