I noticed though that the install of the kernel source does not include the
config file. The config file is in the kernel source rpm. So unless he recompiled
the kernel from the source RPM I don't think he was using the proper configuration.
Try grabbing the proper .config file and copying it into the source directory and
recompiling from that. Also, he should more out the current modules directory to
.old or something before making and reinstalling the modules. If he has any scsi
devices or zip drives he should also do mkinitrd.
