I am experiencing strange glibc oddities under and
updates Mandrake 6 installation. I have about 5
updated M6 installation and this is the only one that
is depicting this behaviour. Example problems:

1. When compiling kernel make menuconfig just sits
   there for hours. Highly unusual.

2. So I run make xconfig and get the following error:
./tkparse: /lib/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.1' not
found (required by ./tkparse)

I had updated the GLIBC rpm also, I know that they took
it down recently because people were having problems
with it, but I tried installing the original glibc rpms
with rpm -Uvh glibc-2*rpm --oldpackage and still the
problems persisted.

3. vmware doesn't boot NT anymore. NT exits saying
that it could not find a certain file. I know for
a fact that the NT installation is good. I copied
the NT filesystem file to another machine with M67
and vmware and it worked just fine there.

Any ideas on how to correct this problem? I am
tempted to do a fresh installation, but if there is a
quick fix, I might as well go for it.

Thanks.
