As far as the vmlinuz-2.2.9-19mdk kernel is concerned which came with 
Mandrake 6.0 I would assume that the installation routine takes care of 
that. (It anyway says so.) For my selfcompiled kernel I did rewrite the 
boot sector with lilo.
