That is okay, but to have room for future growth or be able to
make later alterations, why don't you create an empty directory
of (example) 4GB. Make it partiton #4 and you can later make
extended parttions there. For now, just call it /aldrich.

Later on, if you use it, or repartiton it into extended parttions,
you can rename it in /etc/fstab.

500MB for /home is kinda skinny for a single-user system. In
shared systems, most people nowadays mind their disk usage. But
for a single user, you need room to put your future stuff in,
like downloads, etc. 2GB is more like it.

As for using a different drive for /boot; that is fine. You
may also consider using the other drive for the swap partition
instead. Or swap and some extra space like for /xtra.

If you want to use three hard drives, make sure that:

(1) A hard drive is not paired on the same interface (cable) as
an IDE CDROM.

(2) DMA-33 drives are not paired with CDROMs or non-DMA33 drives.

(3) DMA-66 drives need a special interface on the motherboard.

Good luck.
