Stock mandrake 6 distribution:

attempted to build glibc2.1.2-pre2 
failed - 'could not allocate memory'  something about sunrpc was mentioned at
this time

attempted to build kernel 2.2.11
failed

attempted to build gcc 2.95.1
success

attempted to build libstdc++ 2.90.6
success

attempted to build kernel 2.2.11
success

attempted to build glibc2.1.2-pre2
compile - success, install - success

After that..

built glib1.2.4, gtk+1.2.4, and the current E cvs stuff (e, Eterm, esound,
imlib, audiofile, fnlib)

When i built glibc2.95.1, i simply installed it over the current setup, pgcc. 
later, i used kpackage to remove the pgcc rpms, and did a reinstall of
gcc2.95.1.   That worked fine, although when i run a configure script now, it
cant determine the host type (i686-pc-linux-gnu).   Ive had to manually enter
that for each configure script.  Can someone tell me how to fix that?
