Try to add your local domain to /etc/mail/access. If this doesn�t work look at http://www.suse.de/sdb/en/html/smt_sendmail.html It�s a manual which worked for me. After you have configured your sendmail.cf after that manual the only thing you have to do is to add your smarthost to your sendmail.cf.
