same problem here with the same cdr(s).
after loading the sg.o module and the other needed
modules it still refuses to see the cdr drives. Even
after recompiling the kernel with generic scsi support
it still fails.

I am trying to set up xcdroast but it seems to have problem with my SCSI Matshita CD-R CW-7502
xcdroast in not able to autodetect the audio-read-mode. I tried a cople of options but it did not work.

Any idea ? --
