Hmmmm, <addressing Al, Harald, et al>
Well, I think this list is primarily to help people solve problems using the
distribution, not a forum for complaints.
But, even if you had been right about rpm 3.0.3, your ALL CAPS was a misplaced
message. Cassini is a beta release, and it is expected
that some things will be broken or will require DLing other things. In other words,
big hairy deal if it didn't.
The fact that the Mandrakesoft folks have been so open about bugs and fixes and have
involved the customers in checking their stuff before
they release it seems to me to be "working on the right things". That is, quality.
A LOT was broken by the release of the 2.2.x kernel, and we're still recovering from
that, not just Mandrake, the whole linux community.
The progress was necessary but it carried a price. For example, try loading a sound
driver with Caldera 2.2. Try PAYING for telephone
support to do it and see if you get a call back. I paid, and I never got a call.
I also saw a message on this list or on newbie or both that suggested MandrakeSoft had
pulled a "Mickeysoft" and released Helios (6.1).
The last time I looked at the mirrors list, I saw an announcement that it was not in
fact released.
Well, I am not going to waste more bandwidth on this. I will point out that if you
expect bugs to be fixed, complete error reports are a
MINIMUM to send. Better is to look around and venture a gues at analyzing what is
happening, and better yet is to suggest a workaround if
you can. It doesn't matter if your guess is incorrect, that's how we all learn.
And if you want others to listen to you about changing what you regard as questionable
policy, then propose a better one and explain the
benefits. Be as constructive as possible. The purpose of feedback is to be helpful
to yourself and others, and acting or speaking in a
manner that raises defenses defeats that purpose.
Have a nice day,
Civileme
