oh yeah i forgot... for certain cards the settings are hardwired eg 3c509  u
need a diagnistics software to change the settings.  hope this helps...

Appreciate it, but been there, done that.. It's in the how-to..  This is
the exact step that locked up
the machine..  After this, I had to boot into linux single and run
linuxconf to disable eth1.
