[expert] network problems on Mandrake 6

Hi,

After installing Linux Mandrake 6.0 I do have a problem with my network:

Motherboard GA-6BXC (Gigabyte)
Two network cards 3com - 3C905B-TX  (PCI cards)
I use the default installed driver : 3c59x
(conf.modules =
alias eth0 3c59x
alias eth1 3c59x)

The whole hardware is OK, since I installed RedHat 5.1 on the same
machine, same configuration and it just works fine.
Only installing Mandrake just does not get my network connections up and
running!
ifconfig gives me both cards, but ping doesn't  give any response....

Is there something I missed? Is this a known issue?
