I've been trying to browse the network behind the socks5 firewall
in my dorm for a while without any success.
I was finally directed to http://www.obdev.at/Products/Sharity.html
and told to try out that product (which uses samba). I got my
registration code and installed it with no trouble (it's free for
educational purposes) but I can't get browsing to work at all. The
manual that comes with the software is pretty vague so I don't even
know if I've done all that I need to do in order to get the browser
working in the first place.
The only thing I can think of is that is that I'm using the wrong
broadcast interface. The manual recommended running
route add -host 255.255.255.255 dev eth1 to find out which interface
the local master browser uses which gives me the following error:
SIOCADDRT: No such device
I also tried with eth0 instead of eth1 (my ethernet card is set up
as eth0) and it says: SIOCADDRT: File exists.
I'm not sure what to do at this point. Has anyone else used sharity?
Any ideas?
