KDE is pretty large and takes quite a while ot load.  What is your hardware
like?  My old P150 takes about 60 sec to start KDE from the KDM login
prompt.  Four minutes does sound like an unreasonably long time.
 
My Mandrake 6.0 install hangs at starting systems loggers as well.  I've
never waited 11 minutes for it to continue tho.  You have more patience
that I do...
