[expert] Can't Initialize eth0 in 6.1

I am using a Realtek RTL 8029 PCI ethernet card.

Mandrake 6.0 recognizes it as an ne2000-compatible card and works fine with
it, using the ne2k-pci.o module.

Mandrake 6.1 also recognizes it, uses the same module, but cannot initialize
it. The error I get from modprobe is "invalid parameter io".

The entries in /etc/modules.conf are the same in both installations;
something is not working right for me in 6.1.

Where do I look?
