This works for me, but is it good (securitywise)?
1) Adding these lines to root's .bashrc (having commented the old Xauthority
entry):
eval OLDHOME=~$USER
RCFILE=$OLDHOME/.rootrc
if [ -e $RCFILE ]
then source $RCFILE
fi
2) Creating a file in each user's ~/ called '.rootrc' with this line:
export XAUTHORITY=$OLDHOME/.Xauthority
