AGP has nothing to do with it. For Linux software AGP is simply some
kind
of PCI bus (albeit faster).
But... I suspect that you don't have the proper version of XFree86 (you
didn't
say anything about this).
For XFree86, if you have 3.3.5 or more, then the Banshee driver is there
(in the SVGA server).
Otherwise you can find the proper X server at the following URL:

The same site contains info and pointers if you would like to have
3D with linux too ...
Personally I have a Banshee AGP (Diamond Monster Fusion) which works
perfectly with Linux (even in 3D).
