First: this list is cool. You guys responded and had my problems fixed in no time flat. Sorry I didn't give a status update earlier; I was out of town right after fixing it. Basically the problem was (if anyone remembers) that Mandrake couldn't get an IP using dhcpcd on my company network, but got IPs just fine on my home cable modem. This was puzzling, since Red Hat 6.0 worked fine in both scenarios. The solution: yes, you guys were right...Mandrake uses dhcpcd, while Red Hat uses pump...and switching Mandrake to pump got everything working. Someone suggested that my company might be using MS DHCP servers (which they said strayed from the RFC enough to break dhcpcd)...and yes, I confirmed today that we are in fact using MS DHCP servers. Is there a reason why Red Hat defaults to pump while Mandrake uses dhcpcd? Also, has anyone else installed RH 6.1? I installed it on my desktop last night (Mandrake on this laptop)..wondering about other people's impressions. (sort of off topic, but not really, since the changes in RH 6.1 will surely find their way into the next Mandrake) --- Corbett J.
