Please help with a perplexing problem...

I used the RedHat Control Panel element netcfg to create my PPP connection
to my isp....that is all fine and good... I can use usernetctl ifcfg-ppp0
up to activate my PPP connection from a console prompt...

However because I only have 1 phone line if I wish to disconnect and use
the phone -- that is where the trouble hits...

usernetctl ifcfg-ppp0 down -- does nothing to the PPP connection -- when
it should disconnect it... If I manually kill the sh
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-ppp0 script and then manually kill
pppd daemon the connection drops as it should -- But the next time I go to
connect using PPP -- none of the TCP apps will work -- unless I reboot the
computer first and then bring up the TCP apps like netscape or telnet...

Why is the system refusing to disconnect or reconnect properly??

James
