Try editing fonts.dir to only contain references to iso-8559-1 fonts and
then change the number at the top of this file to correctly reflect the
number of fonts in the listing.

Subject: [expert] TTF problems
HI, I am trying to use those Microsoft TTF fonts, after ttmkdir >
fonts.dir, add the new path into /etc/X11/fs/config, restart the xfs,
the xlsfonts just hang. If I reboot the machine, the X server just could
not start, could anyone give a solution to this?
Linux-Mandrake 6.1
Thanks.
