I posted this on Oracle Technet as well, but it seems to really be a
problem with Mandrake 6.1.

Oracle 8.1.5 is installed using a java program. (you have to download a
JRE from blackdown first). I was able to successfully install Oracle
under both Mandrake 6.0 and 6.1b, but under 6.1 I get the following
message when I run the script that starts the Java installer:

Initializing Java Virtual Machine from /usr/local/jre/bin/jre. Please
wait...
Error in CreateOUIProcess(): -1
: Argument list too long

All of my installs and installation attempts have been after fresh
installs of Mandrake without significant differences in configuration,
and I have used both jre116_v5 and jre117_v3 (both worked with 6.0 and
6.1b, and neither worked with 6.1)

There are a number of other people who have had the same problem who
have posted on Oracle Technet, but I haven't seen any solutions yet.
The problem is always with Mandrake 6.1 (other distros have not reported
this problem). I really need to get this working and don't want to have
to digress to 6.0 or a different distro.

Thanks in advance.
