Hi!

I don't get it:

-r-s--x---    1 root     smb        228192 Aug 13 17:28 /usr/bin/smbmnt*
-r-s--x---    1 root     smb        234592 Aug 13 17:28 /usr/bin/smbmount*
-rwsr-xr-x    1 root     root        56128 Sep 13 18:16 /bin/mount*
drwxrwxr-x    2 root     smb          1024 Sep 28 00:18 /mnt/c

$ newgrp smb
$ smbmount //winmachine/C /mnt/c -U tom
(in some variations like
smbmount //winmachine/C /mnt/c -n baer%password -U tom -W lan -d 2)

Added interface ip=192.168.0.1 bcast=192.168.0.255 nmask=255.255.255.0
Added interface ip=127.0.0.1 bcast=127.0.0.255 nmask=255.255.255.0
cannot mount on /mnt/c: Operation not permitted
mount failed

Everything runs setuid root, I am member of the smb group, I have access
permissions on //winmachine/C. So why doesn't it work as advertised???

In fact it runs flawlessly when I am root. But I don't want that because it
restricts read/write permissions to root (no, you *can't* set uid/gid via
smbmount). And it works perfectly the other way round (weird though to see your
Linux home directory in MS-Explorer ;-)).

Ideas anyone? Please!

Regards

tom
