Dear Axalon:

Thank you for a very knowledgable resonse. Good to know that this might
well compromise my security. Here is my output as you requested. I hope
the # symbol belongs at the end of the command you suggested.

[sher@adsl-77-232-60 sher]$ rpm -qf /usr/X11R6/bin/gsu #
gsu-0.9-1mdk
[sher@adsl-77-232-60 sher]$

And here is my MandrakeUpdate:

[sher@adsl-77-232-60 sher]$ rpm -q MandrakeUpdate
MandrakeUpdate-6.1-3mdk
[sher@adsl-77-232-60 sher]$

Several people have said that they have no problem using MandrakeUpdate
as a user. It's no big deal. I can always just log out of KDE and log
back in as root, update and return to KDE as user, but it is a puzzle
and I think lots of people may not know that they can update by logging
out of KDE and logging back in as root. Trying to add "su -" to the
execute section of Update's Properties simply disables it. I hope
Mandrake isolates the problem and issues a patch for everybody.

Thank you so much for your expertise and understanding.

Benjamin
