Greetings!
I'm installing Linux-Mandrake 6.1 (Helios) on a Dell Dimension
P200v system. The P200v is a P5-200 with on-board S3 graphics chip as
a frame buffer. The machine also has a Matrox G200 8MB PCI frame buffer.
Installation is being performed using the G200 instead of the S3.
During installation, this S3 chip gave me problems and an error
during X server testing followed. Several retries, using different
parameters, also led to the same error message. Options from there was
either retry (which I did several times) or quit. Quit led to "Congratulation
and bla bla".
Of course, when the system is booted, it comes up without an
X server. Starting /usr/bin/gnome or fvwm (or any other X server
dependent apps) is a sure "Can't open display". Tried setting:
example% setenv DISPLAY localhost:0.0 with no success.
Any ideas?
