Thanks for staying in on this one.

The results are:

lpc> enable lp
lp:
        queuing enabled

lpc> restart lp
lp:
        no daemon to abort
lp:
lpc: connect: Connection refused
        couldn't start daemon
lpc>

Unfortunately all that gets enabled is queing again.?
So could that mean a weird permission problem?
I am terrible at permissions and could I have done a 'chmod' command to
give read write access /dev on my home machine but somehow negated
executables?
By doing so could I have disabled printing from the spool?

From Printtool it does print directly to port.? However it only prints
once then dies with the error:

"Error printing test page to quue lp
Error Reason:lpr:connect:
Connection refused.jobs quued but cannot start daemon."

Yes I am running Printtool as root

I am afraid if I had this much trouble getting a working printer when I
first started using Linux I would have still been in "The Dark$ide"

Thanks and I hope you all don't give up on me yet:-)
