Hi,
I've noticed in the mail headers that there are quite of
few of you using kmail, so perhaps some guru can help me.
I have been using Netscape. Recently, during my travel
home, I accumulated in excess of 800 mails. Netscape seems
to choke on that and I am presently unable to retrieve my
mail using netscape. I run fetchmail to poll all my
accounts and then netscape to collect the mail. Now,
whenever I run netscape to collect the mail, it does one of
the following:
1. Freezes and nothing happens.
2. It asks for my password and after I enter the passwd and
click OK, it disappears. I get the error message "Bus
error"
3. After keying in the passwd, up pops a window with the
title "Netscape Error" and nothing else. That's the end of
that session of Netscape.
4. On few occasions, after keying in the passwd, nothing
happens and the 'get msg' and 'stop' buttons grey out.
Still no mail.
(I can send mails though)
I have attempted to copy my mailbox in /var/spool/mail
somewhere else and then empty the contents(except for a few
mails), but I still get the same symptoms.
I have attempted (twice) to uninstall Netscape and
reinstall, but the same symptoms persist. I'm running
Netscape 4.7-1, KDE 1.1.1. I have looked into Mandrake's
site and seen Mandrake's package of Netscape-4.70. Anyone
has any idea if that will get rid of the problems?
I have looked at kmail, but I do not fancy re-creating my
address book, and filter settings all over again. Does
kmail recognise netscape's file formats for me to do a
simple import, etc?
I can now read my mail using kmail, but without filtering,
I'm afraid of missing some important mails.
Thanks and I hope I don't miss your replies.
