Voiceband modems may operate in a variety of transmission modes, including simplex, half-duplex, and full-duplex. Simplex transmission is one-way transmission between a transmitter and a corresponding receiver. In half-duplex transmission, two-way transmission is possible, but it cannot take place simultaneously; data must first be transmitted in one direction before transmission in the reverse direction is possible. Finally, full-duplex transmission is simultaneous transmission in both directions. |
