IMHO, mandrake is not even close to 99.9% compatibility. With VERY
many packages you have dependence problems. E.g: I tried installing
October release of GNOME from RH rpms, and had a number of unsatisfied
dependencies, ranging from stupid (it needed redhat-logos for splash
screen) to possibly serious (needed newer version of pam). I tried to
install RH's PPP utility (rp3) - also unsatisfied dependencies, like
needed a newer version of initscripts.  Of course,
I found a way around, but I wouldn't call it 99.9%. At best, 90%.
