I use the autostart - have a link to ssh-add in it. Do not remove it -
Autostart is very handy for programs which need to start at login, but
do not run at logout.
I am not sure about the templates, I suppose one needs them to produce
icons on the screen, but I may be wrong on this one.
I usually right-click on the byckground and choose new/something for this.

Have you contacted the KDE team for that? If not, I have just done it for
you. Sven, WDYT? I hope you mean removing the icon on the screen, not
actually removing the dirs?
