Dear Chmouel:
I would very much appreciate your help with finding and installing
French (and Russian) fonts in Linux. I am a registered user of
Linux-Mandrake 6.1.
Specifically, I need Type 1 French and Russian fonts for KDE, the Linux
desktop and
StarOffice 51a. Both have French keyboards but they don't have French or
Russian fonts that I can use as screen and print fonts.
I am enclosing a copy of my letter to the star-linux mailing list. I
would very much appreciate your help.
"I still don't understand the main point: If SO provides multilingual
support and allows you to choose a French keyboard, then what's
preventing me from typing in French in SO just as I would type in
English. I've added French to my KDE Internationalization settings
(Settings, Input, Internationalization) and can easily toggle between
the English and French keyboard (by either clicking Cntl+Shift or by
blicking on the language button on the Panel. So, what's missing? A
french font? If so, where can I find a French Type 1 screen and print
font that I can use in SO and in KDE? I might add that I also need a
Russian font. It would be great to be able to type Russian in Cyrillic
and French with French accented characters NORMALLY. My wife and I are
both professional translators and would very much appreciate being able
to look professional in Linux just as on that other OS, and we are very
pleased to see that KDE and SO provide multilingual support. The only
question is how to make it work?
Thank you so very much.
