[expert] Video synch

One of my video modes shows up as being too far to the left on the
monitor. That is, the lef side of the desktop is all crunched up, and
there is a large black band to the right of the right edge of the
desktop. Is there any way, short of editing the Xfree86 configuration
file, to adjust the placement of the image on the monitor?

I have KDE and fvwm installed.
