Well, I have discovered a difficulty in LM 6.1 and managed to reproduce it in Oxygen. Scenario: Computer with at least one vfat partition mounted in addition to the usual ext2s. Produce the error: Grab a folder containing at least two files and DRAG it from an ext2 partition to the vfat partition. Select either move or copy. Now kfm will freeze on the rewrite of the window. Kill Kfm and restart X and KDE The window to the vfat partition will continue to freeze kfm--a top shows kfm using 99% or more of the CPU time. One system was left running for 72 hours and no resolution was achieved. The fix if it happens to you: use console or boot into the vfat-aware op system. Delete the .directory file. Return to KDE The workaround: select files and drag them to folders already built in the vfat partition if the files must be moved. Alternatively, use other software to SAVE files into the partition. The report: Will be transmitted to KDE.org as well as here. Civileme
