I've installed Mandrake 7 on 2 garden variety PC's. Neither one can be
reached by telneting in. I have 4 other mandrake 6.5 boxes that don't have
the problem. I checked to see if telnet-server is installed and it is.
Telnet is not commented out in /etc/services or in inetd. The permissions
and files are identical (6.5 and 7.0) for hosts.deny and hosts.allow.We
are using NIS and nsswitch.conf is identical for hosts ( files nis) and
services (nis files) on 6.5 and 7.0. I can telnet from the box to local
host but all external boxes are unable to telnet in. You can ftp in and
out .( but berolftp is running) . References in inetd poing to tcpd (
wrappers) not telnet.
