Hmmmm,

Turns out these DOS mounts prepared cause a number of problems, from
sensitizing kfm to the existence of .directory files in windows
subdirectories to causing StarOffice to be unable to access files in these
partitions (capitalization of partition names).

I have users who have old windows files and the mount points I routinely
changed to

/home/username/mywindows

with gid and uid set to the user's number, rw access, and most of the same
options chosen in the creation of /DOS_hdax. The problem I have is the
.directory files freezing kfm, and it happens in 6.1 and, by a report from
Ron Stodden on Oxygen Beta 5, in that as well. I have heard there is a
mysterious and secret arcane setting for /etc/fstab that will prevent the
manufacture of dotfiles in the partition, and I wish I could find more
information on it, cause every time someone here drags a folder to the
windows partition on his desktop, I have a nice little hunt to eliminate
the files created that freeze kfm, and I have to listen to "Why did we
convert to linux anyway? Bring back Microsloth!"
