I had the same problem. I think the either the Mandrake 7.0 Samba or
network configuration has some problems. I found by adding a new network
card and disabling the other one and restarting the network services I could
get it to work. But then as soon as I rebooted It would kill the network
again. Finally I re-installed using the recommended packages and the
network finally works. However, I still can't get an SMB printer to work
and I've never had problems with that before.
