I have an ASUS SP97V with an SiS chipset. Mandrake 7.0 didn't like my PS/2
mouse, so I had to use a serial mouse for the install (planning to switch
back after the install) and then, for some reason, Mandrake started the usb
mouse service instead of gpm (the pointer didn't move).
I had trouble with this board and BeOS not liking the serial mouse, so it
may be a peculiarity of the chipset.
So, running mouseconfig and making gpm start solved my problem.
