Jack,

The process which obtains your IP Address is dhcpcd (The DHCP Client Daemon). 
If you do a 'ps ax | grep dhcpcd' you'll see the PID, along with the command
and it's arguments.

To terminate the process, and release the IP address back
to the DHCP server, issue 'dhcpcd -k'.  That tells the currently running dhcpcd
process to release the IP address, and terminate itself.
