Whoever was requesting information about getting the sound working with the
SOLO-1 chipset, just go to http://www.alsa-project.org and get the latest
driver. I just got the sound working on my laptop with minimal effort.
Notes on what I did, I used the --with-sequencer=yes and --with-debug=detect
options when running ./configure in the alsa driver directory.
>From there, just follow the instructions in the INSTALL file (also in the
alsa driver directory). The sound card you need to specify is the es1938.
Here's what I added to my /etc/conf.modules:
# ALSA portion
alias char-major-16 snd
alias snd-card-0 snd-card-es1938
# OSS/Free portion
alias char-major-14 soundcore
alias sound-slot0 snd-card-0
alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss
alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pmc-oss
alias sound-service-0-8 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-12 snd-pmc-oss
run modprobe snd-card-es1938
then use the mixer to adjust the sound setting since they default as muted.
That's it. I'm listening to a cd as I type. Now, if only my laptop didn't
have the built-in winmodem....
Hope this helps.
