Peter,

Are you running KDE or are you trying to have some sort of process running in the 
background??

I use KDE with it's kppp dialer with my ISDN BitSurfer PRO modem.  All I did was treat 
it as if it were a "normal"
modem, no special init strings, no fancy scripts, etc.  All I did was point to the com 
port it was plugged into and off
it went.

I have yet to configure a diald usage so can't help you there.
