There aren't any good motherboard solutions for Athlons or
CUmines. If you do get wild and crazy, get a VIA based board,
forget anything i8<whatever> and the rambust that goes with it.
If you want a serious machine, stay away from AGP (1x,2x,or hehehe
4x). Leave ata/66 alone, get a 7200rpm or better, 2mb cache HDD
and run it on good'ol ata/33 and get a BX board

the K-7? Would prefer one with onboard sound and video if possible.

On board, built-in, integrated... is the _worst way to go_ no
matter what OS you run. If you want somethin like that buy a
cheap ready made (eg, Dell, Gateway, Compaq, or any body else that
managed to drive Packhard Hell out'a business). That's about the
most postive things that can be said about anything newer than BX

Appreciate any feedback. Thanks! > John Connell >

P3 600E on an Asus, Aopen, Soyo, or Abit BX board, and clock it
to 800mhz (6x133.3) with a pci Voodoo3, 256 mb cas2 ram 7-7.5ns
133.+mhz
