I've found two problems since installing Mandrake 7, although they may not
be specific to Mandrake.
I installed emacs and emacs-X11, and used emacs with no problems. I got rid
of X, so I removed emacs-X11 and installed emacs-nox. Now, I cannot load
files from the command line (e.g., emacs /etc/inetd.conf) because only the
scratch buffer comes up when emacs starts, with the error message:
"Opening input file: no such file or directory,
/usr/lib/X11/locale/locale.alias"
I believe the same problem happens without first installing and uninstalling
emacs-X11, if I read the few scattered accounts of similar behavior
correctly on the newsgroups.
The other problem I've had is that ipchains has stopped logging. I had tons
of logged connection attempts before the logs rotated, but after rotation,
no more attempts were logged. I did not change my ipchains rules, and I did
not mess up /etc/syslog.conf. I found one thread in the newsgroups that
reported my problem, but the patch mentioned doesn't seem to be applied to
the Mandrake rpm. Is there a good way of getting this info to the Mandrake
maintainers?
