A coupl'a years ago I ran RH 5.1, my first Linux experience. I
read and read, even asked on NG's ..... how much space for /,
/root, /usr/, home, etc. I still don't know ;) I took the easy
way out and made a /swap and a /. I still run that way. Yet I
feel a tinge of guilt for not setting Linux up 'properly'. I keep
tellin myself I'll see how much room i need in the various
directories, then I'll do it right. Yeah... sure.
Anyhow, if y'all really wanna investigate how much room you
need in the various directories, based on your current personal
experience, have I got a find for you. from the readme:
"KDirStat (for "KDE directory statistics") is a graphical 'du' (disk
usage) command with some cleanup facilities as an extra. It displays
the amount of disk space being used by a directory tree in graphical
form, as a collapsible and expandable tree. It shows absolute numbers
(human readable, of course - no Unix "disk blocks", but kilo-, mega-
or gigabytes) as well as the percentage of a tree including and
excluding the respective subtrees. The percentages are displayed as
numbers as well as graphically (as percentage bars)."
