Dear friends:
Using Mandrake 7.0 (Customized installation -- Normal) and U. S.
Robotics 56k external modem.
I am using a Microsoft serial compatible mouse and I have changed the
setting in my Bios on IRQ Interrupts no. 3,4,5,7, and 12 to Legacy ISA.
My mouse is connected to the first serial port, while my Robotics 56k
external modem is connected to the first serial port. I had no problem
with connecting to the Net last night in my Mandrake 6.1 EVEN with my
Network ethernet card ON. In fact, I connected over and over again
without a single failure.
Everything seems to be all right, the settings, the initialization, etc.
Everything gets an OK during dial-up, and then I can see CONNECT 57,000
come up on the log screen and then just as quickly disappear. It just
won't stay connected and instead starts dialing all over again and
again. Here is the message from the log:
Feb 16 06:43:52 adsl-77-232-204 pppd[1155]: The remote system is
required to authenticate itself but I
Feb 16 06:43:52 adsl-77-232-204 pppd[1155]: couldn't find any secret
(password) which would let it use an IP address.
Any idea what could be causing the Robotics to connect, then restart the
initialization process?
Thank you all so much.
Benjamin
